INDIAN SPRINGS — In the wake of current Indian Springs Mayor Steve Zerkis’ decision not to run for a third term, two current council members have decided to leave their seats and join the mayoral race.

Brenda Bell-Guercio and Stewart Dudley, who are currently in the town council’s Place 2 and Place 5 seats, respectively, will vie for the mayor’s seat during the Indian Springs municipal election Aug. 28.

In a previous interview, Zerkis said he supports Bell-Guercio’s candidacy.

“I think she’s exceptionally well-qualified. She’s been involved in every decision we’ve made and every change we’ve made here,” Zerkis said. “I think she’d make a superb mayor.”

With Bell-Guercio and Dudley in the mayoral race, the only other contested race is for the council’s Place 2 seat, with Logan Cook and Kathryn Harrington as candidates.

Place 1 incumbent Herb Robins is unopposed in his re-election bid, as are Place 3 incumbent Brian Stauss and Place 4 incumbent Jack Mendel.

Barton J. Trammell is the only candidate for the Place 5 seat.
