FROM STAFF REPORTS

MONTEVALLO – Montevallo will host its third artwalk on Aug. 25 from 4-8 p.m.

The artwalk is a collaborative effort between the city of Montevallo and the University of Montevallo. In addition to being a fun night on the town, the Montevallo Artwalk is an initiative to support downtown businesses, as well as the local art community.

During the artwalk, many Main Street businesses, including two art galleries, will keep their doors open later than usual and provide refreshments free to the public. Artists set up booths along Main Street to display and sell their pieces. Live music also adds to the “street party” atmosphere. Attractions located off Main Street will include a student art show in the basement of University of Montevallo’s Napier Hall.

The “Put A Bird On It” theme is a celebration not only of the University of Montevallo Falcons, but also of the quirky nature of the Montevallo community. Artists are encouraged to feature items with birds, and birdhouses built by local artists will be installed on Main Street.

Student artists can secure booth space for $10, while booths for non-students cost $20. Artists and musicians interested in participating in the upcoming artwalk should email the event planners at montevalloartwalk@gmail.com no later than Aug. 18 to secure a spot.

Following the success of Montevallo’s first two artwalks on Oct. 15, 2011, and March 31, the Artwalk Posse hopes that this event will continue to attract both community members and out-of-town visitors to the downtown area.
