Vote and stay involved in city

Dear Editor,

This is a great time to be a citizen of Pelham, Alabama, as in the next couple of weeks we will have an election to vote for a mayor and council to run our city.

Now is the time to attend the council meetings that are held on the first and third Mondays of each month. Come and see how the city is run and the discussions that will affect how the city is run and how your tax dollars are spent.

You will find a great experience as the city spends your tax dollars and how you can be a voice in your city. Some of the past things that have gone on are the water rate increase and the sewer rate increase and the contract for your garbage pick up has changed.

Also see the great things that are going on in the library, the sports areas, the golf and tennis and the things that the Civic Complex has to offer.

In the next couple of weeks, you will have a vote in the city and you will see how the budget is worked out before the first of October.

I have been going to these council meetings for the past four years, and still find things very interesting. Please come out and see how your city works.

One last thing I wish to convey to the people of Pelham is that the people that work in the city are some of the best you will find anywhere — starting with the police and fire to the ones that keep the city clean and working.
