The Pelham Police Department has charged a fourth man with murder related to the Aug. 12 stabbing death of Emilio Alonso.

Landaverde-Caballero

Police arrested Fernando Antonio Landaverde-Caballero on one count of murder on Aug. 28, during the death investigation. Alonso, 25, was pronounced dead after police responded to a wreck on U.S. 31 near Valley Elementary School during the early morning hours of Aug. 12.

Police previously said Alonso crashed his vehicle after he was stabbed during an altercation at a bar off Alabama 119.

“It is alleged that Landaverde-Caballero was involved in the Aug. 12 assault that led to the death of Emilio Alonso,” read a Pelham Police Department press release.

Landaverde-Caballero’s arrest came less than a week after police arrested 30-year-old Oscar Adonay Alvarenga of Montevallo and Pelham residents Jose Armando Erazo-Acosta, 38, and Pedro Edgardo Portillo, 37, and charged them with one count of murder each.

Landaverde-Caballero currently is being held in the Shelby County Jail.
