TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team fell to the University of Tampa 2-1 in overtime in a non-conference match Sept. 2.

Montevallo saw several scoring opportunities in the opening half, but neither team could find the net in the first 45 minutes of the match.

“We controlled the game,” said Montevallo coach Ken Hassler. “We had them on the ropes, but we simply were unable to find the net.”

Dominic Cutrofello netted a penalty kick in the 52nd minute of the match to give Tampa a 1-0 lead.

Stefan Vaziri pounded a penalty kick into the top left corner of the net for the equalizer in the 87th minute, which sent the match into overtime.

Cutrofello scored the game-winning goal, his second goal in the match, just more than five minutes into the overtime period on a header assisted by Brian Fekete.

“Our back four played another exceptional game,” Hassler said. “The penalty kick in the second half really changed the momentum of the game.”
