Falcons drop road match against West Georgia

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team dropped a road match Sept. 4 against the University of West Georgia, 3-0.
The Falcons fell in straight sets 25-17, 25-16, 25-16 against their former Gulf South Conference rival.
“I feel we didn’t play our best ball,” said Montevallo coach Katie O’Brien. “Defense was off at first and then offense wasn’t connecting.”
Rebekah Phelps led Montevallo (3-2) with seven kills in the match. Katie Best added six kills, while Michelle Carle and Brianna Guzinski chipped in five kills each.
Kaleigh Harvey posted a team-high 24 digs in the match. Jessica Falleta registered six digs.
Betsy Stevenson contributed a team-high 24 assists.
Montevallo will travel to Anderson, S.C., for a quartet of matches in the Anderson University Invitational this weekend. The Falcons will face Belmont Abbey in their first match Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. before facing Limestone at 5 p.m. Montevallo will wrap up the Invitational on Sept. 8 with a match against Coker at 8 a.m. and a match against Barton at noon.
“We really need to regroup for this weekend when we play regional opponents,” O’Brien said.
