West Alabama edges Montevallo in five sets

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team dropped a heartbreaker in five sets Sept. 18 on the road at the University of West Alabama.
The Falcons fell to the Tigers 25-19, 17-25, 25-18, 21-25, 10-15.
After picking up a 25-19 win in the opening set, the Falcons dropped the second set before storming back with a 25-18 win in the third set.
However, the Tigers held off the Falcons in the fourth set to clinch a slim 25-21 win to force the match into a fifth and final set. After Montevallo tied the match at 8-8, West Alabama outscored the Falcons 7-2 down the stretch to clinch the victory.
Sophomore Michelle Walker led Montevallo (6-7) with 15 kills.
Junior Manyi Ati recorded nine kills, while senior Jordan Spinks contributed eight kills. Junior Michelle Carle finished with seven kills.
Senior Betsy Stevenson finished with a season-high 39 assists in the match. Junior Kaleigh Harvey posted a season-high 27 digs.
Montevallo returns to action Sept. 22 as the Falcons host Augusta State University in their first home match of the season.
