Montevallo women’s golf finishes sixth in Full Moon Invitational

CALERA – The University of Montevallo women’s golf team finished sixth in team standings in the Full Moon Invitational on Sept. 18 at Timberline Golf Club.

The Falcons collectively carded a 323 in the final round, which gave Montevallo a team score of 641 strokes in the two-day tournament. Lander University captured the team championship with a score of 610 strokes.

Montevallo edged Birmingham-Southern College and North Greenville in team standings.

Montevallo saw a 27-stroke improvement from its first tournament of the season Sept. 10-11 at the Smoky Mountain Intercollegiate.

“This group of girls continue to make strides individually and as a team because of their hard work and attention to what they need to improve upon,” said Montevallo coach Justin Pratt. “Every member of the team is giving their best attitude and effort on the course and those are two key attributes to improving.”

Sophomore Ashlee Beck led the Falcons with tournament total of 9-over par 151, which placed her fourth in individual standings. Beck, who was named to the All-Tournament team, shot a 5-over par 76 in the final round.

Junior Hilary Shaner, who carded a 9-over par 80 in each round, finished in a tie for 15th overall in individual standings with a two-day total of 18-over par 160. Freshman Morgan Natale finished in a tie for 19th overall in individual standings with her 19-over par 161. Natale shot a 11-over par 82 in the final round.

Junior Kira Chaudhry finished 36th overall with a score of 169 strokes. Senior Kayla Witt rounded out the group of Montevallo golfers with her score of 172 strokes, which placed her in a tie for 37th overall.
