Locals will get a chance to visit Alabama’s largest state park for free during National Public Lands Day on Sept. 29.

Throughout the day, Pelham’s Oak Mountain State Park will join other Alabama state parks in offering free admission.

“It will be a good way to reward the folks who support our state parks,” said OMSP Superintendent Michael Jeffreys. “It could draw a huge crowd, we’ll just have to wait and see.”

Day use fees typically are $3 per adult and $1 for children 6-11 years old and senior citizens 62 and older. The park is open daily from 7 a.m.-sundown.

The nearly 10,000-acre park, which is off John Findley Drive, offers miles of hiking and biking trails, a golf course and much more. For more information on the park, visit Alapark.com/oakmountain.
