The ASNA Legislator of the Year Award is given annually to a current Alabama State legislator who has been an active proponent of health care issues in Alabama and has supported nurses and nursing issues during the legislative session. This is Weaver’s second straight year to receive this honor. She received her award Sept. 20 at the ASNA’s annual awards banquet at the Embassy Suites in Hoover.

Earlier this year, Weaver sponsored a nursing bill during the regular legislative session to will help the nursing profession train faculty members and address the demands of the growing number of people who will need healthcare as baby boomers continue to age. Rep. Weaver was also a primary speaker at the ASNA “Nurses at the Capitol” rally last April on the steps of the Alabama State House.

“Although she is still relatively new to public office, Rep. Weaver has already had a positive impact in the Legislature,” ASNA Executive Director Joe Decker said. “ASNA is very pleased to have an Alabama nurse and business woman in the legislature as both a role model and friend.”

Weaver represents parts Shelby and Bibb Counties, including the cities of Alabaster,

Pelham and Helena, in the Alabama Legislature. She has a bachelor’s degree in business

administration from the University of Alabama, is a licensed registered nurse and has also completed an MBA.
