Chelsea CC takes second in Oxford

The Chelsea High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams each finished second at the Waffle House-Yellow Jacket Invitational meet held at Oxford Lake Park Sept. 22.
Cheyenne Thompson led the way for the Lady Hornet runners by winning the girls’ race. Thompson’s winning time of 20:57 was just ahead of teammates Camryn Neal who finished second (20:51) and Kaitlyn Coley in fourth (22:14). Danielle Whitehurst (24:34) and Kelsey Knecht (25:13) also finished in the top-20 with 16th and 19th place finishes respectively.
The Lady Hornets finished just nine points behind Oxford High School with 38 points for the team title.
David Simpson led the way for the Hornets’ runners with a ninth place finish in 19:24. Nick Adams finished the race just 11 seconds behind his teammate for 11th place with Chris Hughes coming in 13th place in 19:43. Ryan Coody rounded out the top-20 in the boys’ race with a time of 20:22 for 20th place.
Oxford High School won the boys’ team championship with Chelsea coming in second with 74 points.
