MORROW, Ga. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team extended its winning streak to four matches following a 2-0 win Sept. 26 on the road at Clayton State University in a Peach Belt Conference match.

The Falcons, who are ranked No. 5 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America NCAA Division II Southeast Region poll, netted a pair of goals in the opening half to secure the victory.

“It’s an important win for us against a tough Clayton State team,” said Montevallo coach Ken Hassler. “I’m proud of the way our guys played. They realized it was a big game and they were ready. They executed really well.”

Sophomore Pierre Omanga scored the Falcons’ first goal to remain at the top of the list among Peach Belt Conference strikers with his eighth goal of the season. Following a foul in front of the Clayton State goal, Omanga pounded a penalty kick past the Lakers’ goalkeeper in the 14th minute to give Montevallo a 1-0 lead.

Junior Jackson Tolleson added a second goal for the Falcons (6-2  overall, 3-0 in Peach Belt Conference) after his shot attempt deflected off a Clayton State defender into the net in the 34th minute of the contest.

Montevallo junior goalkeeper Brendan Ledgeway, who finished with five saves, posted his fourth consecutive shutout in the victory. Ledgeway hasn’t allowed a goal in three conference matches this season.

The Falcons return to action Sept. 29 with a 3:30 p.m. match against Peach Belt Conference foe Lander University at Varsity Field.
