ALDOT awards bid for Calera Interstate 65 construction

CALERA – The Alabama Department of Transportation awarded the bid for construction on Interstate 65 at exit 228, Mayor Jon Graham announced during an Oct. 1 meeting.

ALDOT awarded the bid to Alabama Bridge Builders Sept. 29. The company has 45 days to move in, and then 12 months to complete construction, Graham said.

During the Oct. 1 work session, the council discussed details of the new park and recreation director position, which the city hasn’t approved or posted yet. Graham said the council would discuss the position further during the Oct. 15 City Council meeting.

During the City Council meeting, the council:

-Approved a resolution to trade in 12 police department cars. The council also approved a resolution to purchase 11 police cars for about $297,000 paid over three years.

-Set a public hearing Nov. 19 to address a nuisance letter concerning Shiloh Creek’s clubhouse.

-Announced ALDOT would open the bid to restripe and resurface Interstate 65 north to Alabaster Dec. 7.

-Approved an alcohol license for the Pit Stop gas station.
