Montevallo men’s soccer drops heartbreaker against Lander in double overtime

MONTEVALLO – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team saw a four-match winning streak come to an end following a 3-2 loss to Lander University in double overtime Sept. 29 at Varsity Field.

Clement Dauchy netted his second goal of the match, off an assist from Robert Seaton, in the sixth minute of the double-overtime session to lift the Bearcats to victory.

Dauchy scored a goal off an assist from Kevin Durand in the 10th minute of the contest to give Lander an early 1-0 lead.

The Falcons (6-3 overall, 3-1 in Peach Belt Conference) tied the match at 1-1 following an unassisted goal by freshman Thomas Davis on a free kick in front of the Lander goal in the 44th minute of the match.

Montevallo took a 2-1 lead when senior Mike Rinzema headed in a goal off an assist from Ricky Davey in the 58th minute. The Bearcats tied the match at 2-2 in the 84th minute following a goal by Durand off an assist from Matthew Bell before Dauchy scored the game-winner in double overtime.

Montevallo junior goalkeeper Brendan Ledgeway, who had only allowed two goals in the Falcons’ first eight matches entering the contest against Lander, finished with two saves in the match.

The Falcons return to action with a match on the road Oct. 3 at Peach Belt Conference foe North Georgia.
