North Georgia edges Montevallo in women’s soccer conference match

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team couldn’t overcome an early deficit in a 4-1 loss on the road at the University of North Georgia in a Peach Belt Conference match Oct. 3.

North Georgia took a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute of the contest when Kelly Penston collected the ball near midfield before dribbling into the box and firing a shot past Montevallo goalkeeper Taylor Kerr.

North Georgia extended its lead to 2-0 in the 51st minute of the match following a goal by Kayla Croom.

Junior forward Christine Prince answered quickly for the Falcons (4-6-1 overall, 1-4 in Peach Belt Conference) with a goal in the 54th minute of the contest. Prince collected a rebound off her first shot attempt and fired a shot over the top of the North Georgia goalkeeper to cut the deficit to 2-1 early in the second half.

The Saints added another goal in the 69th minute of the contest by Abby Trevino to push their lead to 3-1 midway through the second half. North Georgia pushed its lead to three goals following a penalty kick by Penston in the 81st minute of the match.

Kerr, who made her first career start at goalkeeper for the Falcons, finished with seven saves in the match.

The Falcons return to action Oct. 6 with a home match against Peach Belt Conference foe Flagler College at 5 p.m. at Varsity Field.
