Calera picks up third shutout of the season

CARBON HILL – The Calera Eagles shutout their third opponent of the season in a 60-0 handling of Carbon Hill on Oct. 5.
The Eagles jumped out to a 34-0 lead after the first quarter and didn’t look back.
“We were able to pin them deep and things snowballed from there,” said Eagles’ head coach Wiley McKeller. “We just have to continue to improve.”
Calera (5-1, 3-1) added 20 points in the second quarter and six in the third.
John Killingsworth led the Eagles’ rushing attack with 115 yards on 10 carries with a touchdown. Shakeith Tyes scored two rushing touchdowns on 35 yards on the ground while Ronnie Clark and Sam Adams each added a score.
Zack Reneau threw for 119 yards on 6-of-8 passing with two touchdowns. Sean Johnson led the Calera receivers with a 59 yard reception with a touchdown with Jordan Bishop catching two passes for 35 yards and a score.
The Calera defense held Carbon Hill to 78 yards of total offense in the game while recovering four fumbles.
Calera will host Chilton County in Week 7 action on Oct. 12.
