Falcons currently third after Indian Bayou Classic first round

DESTIN, Fla. – The University of Montevallo men’s golf team is currently third in team standings following the first round of the Indian Bayou Classic tournament Oct. 8 at the Indian Bayou Golf Club in Destin, Fla.
The Falcons collectively shot a 9-over par 297 in the opening round, which placed them four strokes behind the host school and tournament leader University of North Alabama.
“We didn’t play our best today,” said Montevallo men’s golf coach Justin Pratt, “but we managed to post a solid first round score to keep us in position to have a chance on day two if we play well.”
Senior Andrew Lowry and junior Conner Godsey each shot a 1-over par 73 in the first round to lead the group of Montevallo golfers. Lowry and Godsey are currently tied for eighth overall in individual standings, four strokes behind tournament leader Ricky Stimets of UNA.
Freshman Dalton Skinner carded a 3-over par 75 in the opening round, which placed him in a tie for 20th overall in individual standings heading into the final round. Fellow freshman Daniel Schroder fired a 4-over par 76 in the first round and is currently tied for 25th overall in individual standings.
Senior Austin Murphey rounded out the group of Montevallo golfers with his 7-over par 79, which currently has him in a tie for 43rd overall in individual standings.
The Falcons return to action in the final round of the Indian Bayou Classic tournament Oct. 9.
