Thompson upsets Briarwood, 3-1

ALABASTER – The Thompson High School volleyball team defended their home court with a 25-19, 20-25, 25-15, 25-16 upset of Briarwood Christian Oct. 11.

Kelsea Bivins had a standout game for the Lady Warriors with 18 kills, 11 digs and three blocks. Katie Guiser added eight kills and 11 digs. August Newberry led the Thompson defense with 15 digs. Tara Miller finished with 20 assists, three aces and seven digs.

Josie Slaughter led Briarwood with five kills while Kayla Crumpier and Madison Chambers each posted four kills. Hope Donohue led the Lions defense with 11 digs while Chambers and Adeline Reiser each had 10 digs.

Reiser led her team with 12 digs on defense.

Thompson will prepare for the Class 6A, Area 7 tournament next week while Briarwood returns to action at the Blaylock tournament this weekend.
