Pelham ends regular season at Blalock tourney

HOMEWOOD – The Pelham High School volleyball team finished the 2012 regular season with a 1-4 showing at the Blalock tournament held at Homewood High School on Oct. 13.
Pelham (17-19) pool-play games against Grissom (18-25, 25-22, 10-15), Walker (25-9, 23-25, 9-15), Vestavia (20-25, 18-25) before picking up a win over host Homewood in a 25-23, 25-16 sweep.
The Panthers advanced to silver bracket play where they fell to John Carroll in three sets (23-25, 25-22, 14-16).
Caitland Smith led Pelham with 54 kills and 11 blocks in the tournament. Bradleigh Smith had 29 kills, four blocks and four aces with Autumn Wild Hiett adding 19 kills and 41 digs on the day. Hayley Brisendine finished the tournament with 69 digs.
Pelham will return to action at the Class 6A, Area 8 tournament at Oak Mountain High School.
