Man struck by car, killed in Shelby County

A Pell City man was killed Oct. 20 when he was struck by a vehicle on U.S. 231 in Shelby County, according to a press release issued by the Alabama Department of Public Safety.
James Caley Brittain, 74, of Pell City was struck by a vehicle about two miles north of Pell City on U.S. 231 at approximately 5:40 a.m.
Brittain was standing in the northbound lane of the highway when he was struck by a 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by Deliliah Jackson, 56, of Riverside, according to the press release. Brittain was then struck by three other southbound vehicles.
Brittain was pronounced dead at the scene, the statement said. Jackson sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Pell City.
Alabama State Troopers are investigating the crash.
