Vincent High School defeated Ohatchee High School (0-8) 44-34 on Oct. 19 at Ohatchee.  The win locked up a playoff spot for the Yellow Jackets, but it came with a price as starting quarterback Damauntey Johnson was lost to a season-ending injury. Vincent coach Zeb Ellison said that Johnson sustained a torn MCL and possible ACL tear.

“The younger guys are going to have to step up,” Ellison said.

Sophomore quarterback Michael Gilham came off the bench to throw for 132 yards and two touchdowns on 5-of-6 passing.  Senior receiver Anterio Rogers had four catches for 186 yards and two touchdowns.  Junior running back Rodney Groce had 177 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries.

“It was a good win,” Ellison said. “We need to put it all together and clean things up.”

Before the injury, Johnson hit Rogers for a 76-yard touchdown pass for the first touchdown of the game.  Gilham hit Delvecchio Hamilton for a 12-yard touchdown run for the second Yellow Jacket score.  Quartez Walker had a 70-yard kickoff return for Vincent’s third score.  Gilham hit Rogers for a 76-yard touchdown pass for the fourth Vincent score. Finally, Groce capped off the scoring with a 52-yard touchdown run.

Vincent (6-2) will play at Woodland High School next week.
