Jo Ann Weaver Baker, of Vestavia Hills, died Oct. 21, 2012, at home after a five year battle with Ovarian Cancer.
Born in Birmingham on Feb. 14, 1948, to Noah Ottice and Ila Mae Weaver, Jo Ann was a lifetime student and teacher. She received her undergraduate degree from Jacksonville State University, master’s degree from the University of Montevallo and master’s degree from the University of Alabama. She was a teacher in the Shelby County School system for 27 years. She taught at Vincent High School, AREA Vocational School in Columbiana and Thompson High School. Jo Ann retired from teaching in 2000. Upon retirement she went on to sell real estate for ReMax Advantage.
Jo Ann is survived by her husband, Donald M. Baker; son, Christopher R. Warren (Catherine); three grandchildren, Elise, Max and Reese; step-son, Jeff Baker; step-grandchildren, Sommer, Jeffrey and Sarah; and many other relatives and close friends.
The visitation will be Oct 25 at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home on Hwy 150 from 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be Oct. 26 at Lakeside Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Services conducted by Dr. Mike McLemore. Burial at Elmwood Cemetery.
