MONTEVALLO – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team will travel to Savannah, Ga. to face Armstrong Atlantic State University in its third appearance in the Peach Belt Conference tournament in school history.

The Falcons clinched the final spot in the conference tournament following a 3-1 win over Young Harris College in their final regular season match. Montevallo (7-8-2) enters the tournament as the No. 8 seed and will face the top-seeded Pirates in a conference tournament quarterfinal match Oct. 30 at 1 p.m. Armstrong Atlantic State (15-1-1) enters the match ranked No. 2 nationally in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America NCAA Division II poll.

The winner will advance to a conference tournament semifinal match Nov. 2 at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Ga.

The Falcons fell to Armstrong Atlantic State 5-0 in late September in the regular season meeting between the two teams in Savannah, Ga. Montevallo junior goalkeeper Kaitlin Thomas, who suffered a season-ending injury midway through the season, finished with six saves in the match.

Junior goalkeeper Taylor Kerr, who replaced Thomas as the starter, posted a 253-minute scoreless streak during conference play and was named the Peach Belt Conference Goalkeeper of the Week once during the season.

Montevallo is 2-2 all-time in two previous Peach Belt Conference tournament trips in school history. The Falcons advanced to the conference tournament title match in 2009 before falling to Armstrong Atlantic State 5-2 in the championship match.

Montevallo is back in the conference tournament following a one-year absence in 2011. The Falcons made seven appearances in the Gulf South Conference tournament before joining the Peach Belt Conference tournament in 2009.
