Montevallo junior named conference Player of the Week

AUGUSTA, Ga. – University of Montevallo junior Manyi Ati was named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week for the third time in her career Nov. 12 after reaching a career milestone in the Falcons’ 3-0 win over UNC Pembroke in its final conference match of the regular season.

Ati clinched the Falcons’ sweep of the Braves with her 1,000th career kill accounting for the match’s final point in the conference match Nov. 10.

Ati finished the week with double-digit kills in each of the Falcons’ three matches, hitting .432 for the week with 3.08 kills per set. Ati made only five errors in 74 total attacks.

After recording 15 kills in a 3-2 win over Francis Marion, she registered 10 kills in a 3-0 sweep of UNC Pembroke. Ati followed up with 12 kills in a 3-1 loss to nationally ranked University of West Florida Nov. 10.

For the week, Ati added 0.50 blocks per set, two digs and two aces. Ati is currently third in the Peach Belt Conference with a .321 hitting percentage.

The Lawrenceville, Ga. native was named the Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Year in 2010 and has been named first team All-Peach Belt Conference in each of the past two seasons.

Ati and her teammates return to action Nov. 16 when they face Augusta State University in the quarterfinal round of the Peach Belt Conference tournament on the Flagler College campus in St. Augustine, Fla.
