Montevallo women’s basketball tops West Georgia

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team defeated the University of West Georgia 67-55 in a non-conference game on the road Nov. 20.

Sophomore Taylor Beverly led the Falcons (2-3) with 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the floor in the victory. Beverly also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out a team-high three assists in the win.

Freshman Jacquelyn Thompson added 13 points off the bench. Junior Alexsis Brown finished with 11 points, while senior Trena Moore-Smith chipped in 10 points.

Senior Zena Nasiloski added eight points to go along with a team-high nine rebounds in the win.

The Falcons stormed out to a commanding lead in the first half. Montevallo led by 19 points, 34-15, following a layup by Beverly with 50 seconds remaining in the opening half before carrying a 15-point lead into the locker room at halftime.

West Georgia cut the lead down to two points, 53-51, following a 3-pointer by Mone Peoples with 4:50 left in the game. However, the Falcons responded with a quick 6-0 run, capped with a pair of free throws by Beverly with 2:10 left in the game to ice the victory.

Montevallo returns to action Nov. 20 when the Falcons host Faulkner University in a non-conference game at BankTrust Arena. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
