Evangel takes down unbeaten Lady Lions

Evangel Christian defeated previously unbeaten Cullman Christian 42-40 on Nov. 30, in a game played at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville. The Lightning improved to 2-2 with the victory.
Trailing 15-4 early in the second quarter, Evangel mounted a comeback led by Bethany Letson’s three three-pointers to cut the deficit at halftime to 21-20. The Lightning went on a 12-5 run in the third period, keyed by Madison Thames’ eight points, to take a 32-26 lead. Cullman made a late charge to go ahead 40-38, but Anna Byers scored inside to tie the game, and then after a defensive stop, Lacey Entrekin hit two free throws to clinch the victory.
Byers had 11 points, 13 rebounds and five steals to lead Evangel, while Thames had 11 points and eight rebounds. Letson added nine points and Entrekin eight for the Lightning.
Haley White led the Lions (7-1) with 12 points.
