Lady Panthers take third at Magic City Invitational

BIRMINGHAM – The Pelham Lady Panthers finished third at the 2012 Magic City Invitational indoor track meet held at the Birmingham Metro CrossPlex Dec. 8.

Caitland Smith, Mary Grace Strozier and Alex Ladewig each won their respective events to pace Pelham.

Smith won the girls’ 60-meter dash with a time of 7.81 seconds. Briarwood’s Abbie Cutcliffe rounded out Shelby County finishers in sixth with a time of 8.11 seconds.

Strozier won the girls’ 1600-meter with a time of 5:07.81. She also took second in the girls 800-meter run with a time of 2:22.35.

Ladewig won the girls’ long jump with a 16-foot, 4-inch leap. Spain Park’s Simone Charley took second in the long jump with a jump of 16-3.5 while Pelham’s Erin Hines was fourth (15-3.5).

Charley led Spain Park to an eighth place finish in the team standing while setting a meet record in the girls’ triple jump. Charley jumped 38-feet, 7-inches to win the event. Ladewig took fifth with a jump of 32-feet, 1-inch.

Thompson took fourth in the boys’ standings led by Eric Reeves.

Reeves won the boys’ triple jump (41-11.75) while taking third in the boys’ long jump (19-9).
