Montevallo senior named to NSCAA Scholar All-Region team

MONTEVALLO – University of Montevallo senior Shane Howard added another postseason honor Dec. 15 when he was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Men’s College Division Scholar All-South Region team.

Howard, the lone Peach Belt Conference representative on the team, was selected after having a successful season both on and off the field.

Howard finished tied for second on the team in goals scored with five goals during his senior season. Howard, who also assisted on four other goals, finished second on the team behind freshman Pierre Omanga with 14 total points.

Howard was named first team All-Peach Belt Conference and second team NSCAA NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region following the season.

Howard, a midfielder from County Carlow, Ireland, is a kinesiology major and has compiled a 3.42 grade-point average in the classroom. Howard was also named to the Peach Belt Conference All-Academic team.

Howard, who joined the Falcons as a transfer from Old Dominion University before the 2011 season, was named second team All-Peach Belt Conference and was a Bronze Scholar on the Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll during his junior season.
