Hoover names 2012-2013 Teachers of the Year

HOOVER — Hoover City Schools recently named its 2012-2013 Teachers of the Year for each of its 17 schools.

Four Hoover City Schools are located in Shelby County, including Greystone Elementary, Riverchase Elementary, Berry Middle and Spain Park High.

At Greystone Elementary, the Teacher of the Year is Sara Womack, a music teacher who has been with Hoover City Schools since 2006. She has 13 years of teaching experience.

Third-grade teacher Garrett Rogers was named Riverchase Elementary’s Teacher of the Year. Rogers has three years teaching experience and has been with Hoover City Schools since 2010.

Mindy Hicks, a sixth-grade special education teacher, was named Berry Middle’s Teacher of the Year. She has been with Hoover City Schools since 2000 and has 13 years of teaching experience.

At Spain Park High School, the Teacher of the Year is Marty Inman, a family and consumer sciences teacher. She has been with Hoover City Schools since 2003 and boasts 38 years of teaching experience.

The Teacher of the Year for the entire Hoover school district will be announced in January. That winner will be put forward as a candidate for the Alabama Teacher of the Year award.
