Falcons looking forward to Play 4Kay, alumni events

MONTEVALLO – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team is again participating in the national Play 4Kay event benefitting the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and breast cancer awareness during the 2012-2013 season under second-year coach Cindy Hilbrich.

The Falcons are looking to turn BankTrust Arena pink during their Peach Belt Conference game Saturday, Feb. 2 against the University of North Georgia, which will also feature an alumni gathering in celebration of the program’s 40th anniversary. Tip off is set for 1:30 p.m.

The Play 4Kay event will honor breast cancer survivors during the game and and the Falcons will be hosting a silent auction in front of the upper level concession booth with proceeds going to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. The team will also be selling pink Play 4Kay t-shirts with special University of Montevallo logos at BankTrust Arena the day of the game.

Items up for bidding in the auction include University of Alabama softball tickets.

The Falcons are asking all supporters to wear pink clothing items to the game at the McChesney Student Activity Center.

The Montevallo women’s basketball team raised nearly $1,300 during last season’s Play 4Kay event and hopes to surpass that mark this year.

Play 4Kay is a global, unified effort for a nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and The V Foundation, is the official Play 4Kay charity. The Falcons will also honor all Montevallo women’s basketball alumni in attendance and will host a luncheon following the game for past players.
