Godfrey leads Oak Mountain wrestlers at state

Oak Mountain High School junior Jared Godfrey led the Eagles to a 20th place finish out of 32 teams in Class 6A at the AHSAA state wrestling championships Feb. 16 in Huntsville.
Godfrey took fourth place in the 6A 138 pound division with a record of 4-2 in the tournament. Godfrey won his first match to advance to the championship quarterfinals before falling to Prattville’s Caden Mcwhhirter. He then worked his way through the consolation bracket picking up three straight victories, including a pin over Davis Perry of Hewitt-Trussville to advance to the third place match.
Godfrey was edged by Vestavia Hill’s Morgan Paugh in a 4-2 decision loss to take fourth in the state.
Lloyd Time took fifth in the 6A 220 pound weight class with a 7-3 decision win over Brandon Holland of Smiths Station.
