Pelham wrestlers pick up victories at state

Three Pelham Panthers wrestlers each picked up a win at the AHSAA Class 6A state wrestling meet Feb. 15.

Chase Mote led Pelham with two points with a majority decision victory over Justin Hobbs of Hueytown in the first round of the consolation bracket. Mote fell in the first round of the meet against Sparkman’s Patrick Anderson in a majority decision. Mote was eliminated from the tournament by Thompson’s Austin Gould.

Furman Taylor and Wade Thomas each picked up decision wins in their consolation first round matches. Taylor defeated Robert Lowery of Pell City and Thomas defeated Opelika’s Tyler Carter.

Thomas ended the season with a 22-14 record for the Panthers. Taylor finished 21-12 and Chase Mote was 18-5 on the season.
