A Shelby County grand jury will hear the details of a Feb. 18 shooting before deciding if it will issue any indictments in the case, said Pelham Police Department Lt. Larry Palmer.

“We met with the DA’s office, and it’s been decided the grand jury will hear that case,” Palmer said on Feb. 26.

Police responded to the 100 block of Oliver Street at about 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 18 when someone called 911 to report a gunshot wound victim. When officers and Pelham Fire Department medical responders arrived on the scene, they discovered a man suffering from gunshot wounds to the abdomen and lower section of the left leg.

After the man was treated by fire department medical responders, he was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

“The last time we talked (with the gunshot wound victim), he was doing fine,” Palmer said.

After the shooting, the police questioned a suspect in the case. As of Feb. 26, no warrants had been issued in the case.
