Calera wraps up tournament with a pair of wins

The Calera Eagles softball team went 2-1 on the second day of the Calera Invitational March 9.

The Eagles (7-6-1) defeated Vincent 4-2 and Homewood 12-0 before falling to Marbury 4-3.

Calera began the day with a 4-2 victory over Vincent. Somer Roberson had eight strikeouts while allowing two runs on two hits in the win. Roberson added a 1-for-3 effort at the plate with a triple, RBI and a run scored.

Roberson followed by pitching a no-hitter in the Eagles’ 12-0 victory over Homewood. Roberson had a strikeout and a walk in the victory. Skyler Laird led Calera batting 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored. Shelby Wright added a 1-for-1 effort with a double, two RBIs and two runs.

The Eagles ended the tournament with a 4-3 loss to Marbury. Emily Sanders took the loss allowing three earned runs on seven hits. Sanders added a 1-for-3 performance at the plate with two RBIs. Laird finished 1-for-3 with a double.
