Montevallo freshman wins individual title at Panther Invitational

PALM BAY, Fla. – University of Montevallo freshman Dalton Skinner captured the first tournament victory of his career after claiming the individual championship at the Panther Invitational tournament March 18-19 at The Majors Golf Club.

Skinner carded an even par 216 in the three-round tournament, which helped him claim a one-stroke victory over Taylor Noel of Tampa University and Corey Evans of the University of West Georgia.

Skinner, who carded a 2-under par 70 in the opening round March 18, finished the tournament with a 1-over par in both the second round and third round March 19.

The Falcons finished fifth overall in team standings after collectively shooting a team score of 910 strokes. St. Leo University won the tournament hosted by Florida Tech after carding a team score of 900 strokes.

Junior Conner Godsey finished in a tie for 10th overall in individual standings after shooting a 8-over par 224 in the three-day tournament. Freshman Juan Noce shot a 17-over par 233 in the tournament, which placed him in a tie for 22nd overall in individual standings.

Senior Andrew Lowry carded a 25-over par 241 in the tournament, which placed him in a tie for 31st overall in individual standings. Fellow senior Austin Murphey rounded out the group of Montevallo golfers with his 30-over par 246, which placed him 37th overall in individual standings.

The Falcons return to action March 25-26 at the Bearcat Golf Classic, hosted by Lander University, at Greenwood Country Club in Greenwood, S.C.
