Falcons finish ninth in Emory Classic meet

ATLANTA, Ga. – University of Montevallo sophomore Madison Brown picked up the Falcons’ first ever individual title in a field event after capturing the javelin throw title at the Emory University Classic track and field meet March 29-30.

Brown’s throw of 122 feet, 9 inches surpassed the throw of second-place Nadia Araiinejad of UAH by more than seven feet.

The Falcons finished ninth in the field of 13 teams with 29 total points at the meet. Host Emery University won the event with 161 total points.

“We had a good meet,” said Montevallo women’s track and field coach Tommy Barksdale. “Everyone really competed hard the whole weekend. It’s what we wanted to see as we move closer to conference championships. We are proud of how everyone competed this weekend.”

Other top performances included senior Kaley Glover’s third-place finish in the 10,000-meter run. Glover turned in a time of 39:22.34, which placed her less than one minute behind event winner Hannah Moriarty of Emory University.
Junior Shay Bonner finished fourth in individual standings in the 100-meter hurdles with her time of 15.86 seconds.

The Falcons’ 3,200-meter relay team, including Brown, junior In-Mi Matsunaga, sophomore Lauren Recchia and freshman Katie Vanover, finished sixth with a time of 10:48.20.

Matsunaga finished sixth overall in individual standings in the 5,000-meter run with her time of 19:11.38. Sophomore Brianna Guzinski finished seventh in the triple jump with her leap of 32 feet, 11.75 inches.
The Falcons return to action Friday, April 12 at the Mississippi College Open meet. The Peach Belt Conference women’s track and field championship meet, hosted by Shorter University, will be held April 19-20.
