Montevallo ranked in poll for first time

MONTEVALLO – The University of Montevallo baseball team is ranked in the NCAA Division II national poll for the first time this season following a pair of victories over West Alabama and nationally-ranked UAH last week.

The Falcons debut at No. 25 in the most recent poll, which was released April 8. Montevallo is also ranked No. 6 in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings.

Montevallo (25-12 overall, 13-8 in Peach Belt Conference) opened the week with a 2-1 win on the road April 2 at West Alabama before completing a season sweep of UAH with a 6-4 win over the nationally-ranked Chargers on the road April 3.

The Falcons are one of four Peach Belt Conference schools ranked in the top 25 in the national poll, as well as in the top 10 in the Southeast region.

Lander University is ranked No. 8 in the national poll, as well as No. 2 in the Southeast region poll. USC Aiken, which is ranked No. 3 in the Southeast region poll, is ranked No. 11 in the latest national poll.

UNC Pembroke is ranked No. 22 nationally, as well as No. 5 in the Southeast region poll.

The Falcons own a 7-7 record against teams ranked in the top 25 in the poll, which included three hard-fought losses on the road at top-ranked Delta State University.

The Falcons return to action Tuesday, April 9 with a non-conference game against Miles College. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.

Montevallo returns to Peach Belt Conference action with a three-game series on the road April 13-14 at Francis Marion University in Florence, S.C.

First pitch in the series opener is set for Saturday, April 13 at noon CST.
