Falcons fall to Young Harris in final conference match

MONTEVALLO – The University of Montevallo women’s tennis team fell to visiting Young Harris College 8-1 in its final Peach Belt Conference match of the season April 9.

The Falcons (8-12 overall, 3-10 in Peach Belt Conference won one doubles’ match against the Mountain Lions, who entered the match ranked No. 34 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s NCAA Division II rankings.

Junior Haley Highfield and freshman Allison Howell teamed up to defeat Charlotte Moreau and Diana DiMarco of Young Harris 8-0 in the No. 2 doubles’ match.

Sophomore Niki Polcerova, who is ranked No. 11 in the latest ITA NCAA Division II Southeast Region singles’ rankings, dropped the No. 1 singles’ match against Jane Plevako of Young Harris 6-2, 1-6, 10-5.

Highfield fell to Charlotte Dawson of Young Harris 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2 singles’ match. Howell fell to Moreau 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 3 singles’ match.

Freshman Juanita Ossa fell to Lina Parra of Young Harris 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 4 singles’ match. Senior Lauren Blair fell to DiMarco 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 5 singles’ match.

Sophomore Meagan Stevens fell to Carolina Hernandez 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles’ match.

Polcerova and sophomore Anais Robert fell to Plevako and Dawson 8-1 in the No. 1 doubles’ match. Blair and Ossa fell to Hernandez and Parra 8-4 in the No. 3 doubles’ match.

The Falcons will return to action Wednesday, April 10 with a home match against non-conference opponent UAH.

The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
