Pelham clinches playoff spot

The Pelham Panthers clinched a playoff spot with a 4-1 Class 6A, Area 8 victory over the Oak Mountain Eagles April 6.

Pelham (16-10, 4-1) jumped out to a 4-0 lead after four innings before the Eagles scored a run in the sixth to break up the shutout.

Hunter Stovall led Pelham batting 3-for-3 with two doubles, RBI and a run scored. Thomas Lowery picked up the win for the Panthers in a complete-game effort with nine strikeouts and four walks and allowed a run on four hits.

Justin Hoyt took the loss for Oak Mountain (15-14, 2-3) while allowing four runs on eight hits with nine strikeouts and a walk. Heath Quinn led the Eagles with a 2-for-3 effort with a run scored.
