Montevallo sweeps UAH in women’s tennis match

MONTEVALLO – The University of Montevallo women’s tennis team defeated visiting UAH 9-0 in a non-conference match April 10.

The Falcons, who swept all six singles’ matches and all three doubles’ matches against the Chargers, improved to 9-12 overall with the victory.

Sophomore Niki Polcerova, who is ranked No. 11 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s NCAA Division II Southeast Region singles’ rankings, defeated Jessica Groupierre of UAH 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 1 singles’ match.

Junior Haley Highfield defeated Lina Carvajal of UAH 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 2 singles’ match. Freshman Allison Howell defeated Maria Lawton of UAH 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 3 singles’ match.

Sophomore Anais Robert defeated Alejandra Pacheco of UAH 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 4 singles’ match. FreshmanJuanita Ossa defeated Katie Bryant of UAH 6-3, 7-5 in the No. 5 singles’ match.

Senior Lauren Blair defeated Brandi Dykes of UAH 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles’ match.

Polcerova and Robert defeated Groupierre and Carvajal 8-2 in the No. 1 doubles’ match. Highfield and Howell defeated Pacheco and Bryant 8-5 in the No. 2 doubles’ match.

Ossa and Blair defeated Lawton and Dykes 8-1 in the No. 3 doubles’ match.

The Falcons will wrap up the 2013 season Saturday, April 20 by hosting Huntingdon College in a non-conference match. Montevallo will honor senior Lauren Blair before the match.
