Montevallo ranked No. 6 in D2BaseballNews.com region poll

MONTEVALLO – The University of Montevallo baseball team is ranked No. 6 in the latest D2BaseballNews.com NCAA Division II Southeast Region poll, which was released April 14.
The Falcons, who were ranked No. 25 in the website’s national poll last week, remains among the top six teams in the region in the poll despite being swept for the first time in Peach Belt Conference play this season over the weekend at Francis Marion University.
Montevallo (26-15 overall, 13-11 in Peach Belt Conference) is one of five Peach Belt Conference teams ranked in the region poll.
USC Aiken is ranked No. 2 in the region poll, followed by No. 3 Lander University. UNC Pembroke is ranked No. 5 in the latest poll, followed by the Falcons.
Georgia College, which is ranked No. 9 in the region poll, is the final Peach Belt Conference team ranked in the poll.
Montevallo owns a 5-4 record against teams ranked in the Southeast Region poll. The Falcons have yet to face Georgia College and will travel to Milledgeville, Ga. to close out the regular season with a Peach Belt Conference series April 27-28 against the Bobcats.
The Falcons own a 9-8 record among all teams ranked in NCAA Division II region polls by the website, facing three teams ranked in the South Region poll.
Montevallo swept a home-and-away series with UAH, which is ranked No. 4 in the latest South Region poll. The Falcons took two-of-three games in a season-opening non-conference series on the road at Saint Leo University, which is ranked No. 6 in the most recent South Region poll.
The Falcons were swept in a non-conference series on the road at Delta State University, which is the top-ranked team in both the website’s national poll and South Region poll.

Montevallo will try to complete a season sweep in a three-game set against the University of North Alabama this week. Montevallo, which defeated the Lions 10-5 at home Feb. 20 and 6-5 on the road March 20, will travel to Florence, Ala. to face UNA in the final game of the season series Wednesday, April 17.
First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
The Falcons will return to Peach Belt Conference action with a three-game series on the road at the University of North Georgia this weekend.
First pitch in the series opener is set for Friday, April 19 at 6 p.m. CST. The two teams will wrap up the conference series with a doubleheader Saturday, April 20, with first pitch in the opening game set for noon CST.
