Falcons sixth after opening day of PBC championship meet

ROME, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s track and field team is currently sixth in team standings after the opening day of the inaugural Peach Belt Conference championship meet April 19.

The Falcons have racked up 14 points at the conclusion of six events. Nova Southeastern, a provisional member of the Peach Belt Conference in women’s track and field, leads the field at the championship meet after racking up 60 points on the opening day. Montevallo leads fellow conference members Augusta State and Clayton State after the first day of the meet.

The women’s track and field team will wrap up its season Saturday, April 21 on the final day of the Peach Belt Conference championship meet.

“We are looking for great things tomorrow,” said Montevallo women’s track and field coach Tommy Barksdale.

Senior Kaley Glover became the first member of the Montevallo women’s track and field team to earn All-Peach Belt Conference status after finishing second in individual standings in the 10,000-meter run.

Glover finished with a time of 39:46.91, which placed her just more than one minute behind event winner Michelle Kruse of UAH.

Senior Haley Evans finished fourth in individual standings in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Evans, who recorded a time of 12:11.24, finished less than one minute behind event winner Peri Bowman of Nova Southeastern.

Sophomore Brianna Guzinski finished 10th in individual standings in the long jump competition with her leap of 15 feet, 4 inches.

The Falcons’ 400-meter relay team finished eighth in the event’s standings after recording a time of 53.18 seconds.
