Falcons defeat Huntingdon College in final match

MONTEVALLO – The University of Montevallo women’s tennis team wrapped up its 2013 season with a 7-2 win over visiting Huntingdon College in its final match April 20.

The Falcons celebrated the career of senior Lauren Blair, who defeated Rory Wilson of Huntingdon College 6-1, 6-0 in No. 6 singles’ action in the final match of her career, as they picked up their 10th win of the season.

Montevallo (10-12) took five of six singles’ matches and two of three doubles’ matches against Huntingdon.

Sophomore Niki Polcerova, who is ranked No. 11 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association NCAA Division II Southeast Region singles’ rankings, defeated Taylor Clark of Huntingdon 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles’ match. Polcerova finished the season with a 16-6 mark in singles’ action.

Junior Haley Highfield defeated Britni Thibodeau of Huntingdon 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 singles’ match. FreshmanAllison Howell fell to Katie Scott of Huntingdon 4-6, 6-0, 10-8 in the No. 3 singles’ match.

Sophomore Anais Robert defeated Hannah Still of Huntingdon 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 4 singles’ match. FreshmanJuanita Ossa defeated Micaela White of Huntingdon 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 5 singles’ match.

Polcerova and Robert, who finished the season with a 13-9 record in doubles’ action, teamed up to defeat Still and Thibodeau 8-4 in the No. 1 doubles’ match. Highfield and Howell, who also finished with a 13-9 mark in doubles’ action this season, defeated Scott and White 8-0 in the No. 2 doubles’ match.

Blair and Ossa fell to Clark and Wilson 8-5 in the No. 3 doubles’ match.
