Montevallo’s First Baptist Church will be decked out in red, white and blue on Sunday, May 26 when it host its second annual Wall of Honor, a special tribute to local military members.
The Memorial Day ceremony is “a time to say thank you to those who have served and are presently serving and to remember those who gave their lives for their country,” said the Rev. Terry Sutton, pastor.
“Last year’s service was such a huge success that we see this as a longtime kind experience in our church,” he said. “This area is very patriotic and has taken many occasions to express appreciation to the men and women who serve our country in a lot of different ways. I think maybe that has been kind of initiative to the response we’ve had.”
More than 100 names are on the list of those who serve or have served. Sutton said those names along with where they were based will be read by local radio personality Dollar Bill Lawson.
“As the names are read, family members are asked to stand. All of this is embellished with patriotic music. It makes for a very special kin d of day. I do recall last year, there was a lot of shared emotions,” said Sutton.
The service begins at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, May 26.
