The Alabama Department of Transportation will close portions of several roads in Shelby County this week to perform guardrail repairs.

Beginning on Tuesday, May 28, and ending on Friday, May 31, ALDOT will close portions of several roads between 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.

During work on two-lane roads, ALDOT will close one lane, and flagmen will divert traffic into other lanes, according to an agency road advisory issued on May 24.

On multi-lane roads, such as U.S. 31 and U.S. 280, crews will close one lane, and traffic will continue on other lanes.

Roads included in this week’s work are:

-U.S. 280 from Chelsea to Childersburg

-U.S. 31 in Alabaster

-Alabama 25 from Montevallo to Calera

-Alabama 70 near Shelby County 42

-Alabama 119 near Shelby County 29

“Motorists can expect delays during these operations. Motorists are also requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs and use extreme caution in this area,” read the ALDOT road advisory. “ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this maintenance operation to improve Alabama’s roadways.”
