Donald Scott Davis, 81, lost his battle with Merkle Cell Carcinoma on July 14. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and John L. Davis Sr.

Donald graduated from Gulf Coast Military Academy and attended the University of Alabama. Donald was drafted into the army in 1953 and served his country in Germany during the Korean War. After the war he went into the family grocery business, A & R Supermarkets, where he worked until his retirement in 1999. During his time in the grocery business he was given the Spirit of America award for his civic and grocery interest by the National Grocers Association.

Donald was a long time member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church and enjoyed singing with the Sanctuary Choir and, in his later years, The Dawsonaires.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Harriet Houze Davis; two sons, Paul D. Davis (Margarita) and Phillip N. Davis (Jan); and one daughter, Janice D. Pauls; one brother, John L. Davis Jr. (Joan); one sister, Linda Davis Muellberger (Floyd); four grandchildren, Andre, Kayte, Kacey Ann and Taylor Elizabeth; one great-granddaughter, Aubrey Ann; and many loving nieces and nephews.

There will be a private family burial on Tuesday. A memorial service will be held at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church at 2 p.m. on July 16 with visitation immediately afterwards.

The family request no flowers please.
