The Pelham Public Library’s rear parking lot and entrance will be closed through Aug. 10, as construction crews renovate the back entrance over the next few weeks.

During a July meeting, the Pelham City Council voted unanimously to pay the Pelham-based Hulon Construction company $13,875 to renovate the wheelchair ramp, sidewalk, guardrail and handrail at the library’s rear entrance.

As a result of the construction, the rear parking lot will be closed from Aug. 3-10, according to the city.

Library officials are encouraging patrons to use the front entrance facing U.S. 31, and to use the drop bins on the library’s front porch.

Pelham Mayor Gary Waters previously said the city had already conducted engineering studies for the project, and said city crews will demolish the current ramp and guardrail leading into the rear library entrance to help cut down on costs.
