Thompson High School will give the community a colorful way to kick off the school year on Aug. 24 during Alabaster’s first Red and Black Welcome Back 5K race.

The race will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24 at Alabaster’s Larry Simmons Stadium off Thompson Road, and runners will be painted as they complete the course.

The course is a certified and timed course, and participants can register on Active.com. Registration fees are $25 for adults, $15 for teens and $10 for children.

Checks can be made payable to the Thompson High School PTO, and all proceeds will benefit the organization.

Late registration begins at 7 a.m. the day of the race at the stadium.

Early race packet pickup will be Friday, Aug. 23 from 6-8 p.m.

Prizes or medals will be awarded to the male and female winners in each age group, and T-shirts and backpacks will be available for the first 100 people registered.
