The Pelham City Council will accept applications for those interested in serving on the city’s newly formed board of education through Oct. 7, city officials announced on Sept 13.

On the agenda for its Sept. 16 meeting, the Pelham City Council announced it has begun accepting applications from those interested in serving on the five-member school board.

During its Sept. 9 meeting, the City Council voted unanimously to create a Pelham school board, and to work toward separating from the Shelby County School System to form an independent Pelham city school system.

Those interested in volunteering for the school board should provide a letter of introduction stating why they would like to serve on the board, along with a resumé, according to the council.

Applicants must be Pelham residents, and must pass a background check. Applications may be submitted to members of the City Council or to City Clerk Marsha Yates.
