Evangel stays undefeated with win

The Evangel Christian Lightning kept the winning ways going with a 51-12 win over Ezekiel Christian in Montgomery Oct. 11.
The Lightning opened up scoring in the first after a four-play drive led to a 48-yard Pete Sullivan touchdown run. Dru Bell nailed the point after to take a 7-0 lead at the 8:20 mark in the first quarter. ECS scored next on a Mason Murphy touchdown run, after which Bell hit the extra point for a 14-0 lead. Nate Scott scored next on a 34-yard run, to put the Lightning up 21-0 after the kick.
Thompson opened up the second quarter with a 64-yard pass for a score for a 28-0 lead following the point after. Scott scored again on a 37-yard run, but the extra point was no good. Clay O’Neal broke a 61-yard run right before the half to give Evangel a 41-0 lead headed into intermission.
O’Neal opened the second half scoring, taking a 8-yard run in for six, which turned into seven after Bell’s extra point. Bell then drilled a 30-yard field goal to extend the lead to 51-0 in the third quarter.
Ezekiel got on the board on a 29-yard pass, but missed the PAT, to make 51-6.
Ezekiel scored again to open the fourth, but the PAT was blocked by Cameron Kemp to bring the score 51-12, final.
Scott led the Lightning with 102 yards on nine rushes for two touchdowns, while Thompson passed for 139 yards and a scored. Josh Letson had 81 yards receiving. Defensively, Grant Wesbter had six solo tackles and O’Neal had two interceptions.
